The PS Australian Star offers a unique way to experience luxury river cruising, combining the character of a traditional paddle steamer with the comfort of a modern five-star ship. Launched in 2025 and locally built in Mildura, it is the world’s only wood-fired, five-star accommodated paddle steamer and the largest paddlesteamer in the Southern Hemisphere. With just 38 guests across 19 staterooms, you’ll enjoy a particularly intimate atmosphere and attentive service on board.
Spread across three decks, the ship has been designed to make the most of its river setting. The Hopwood Lounge and outdoor seating area provide comfortable spaces to relax and watch the scenery pass by, while an onboard passenger lift makes it easy to move between the staterooms and facilities. You’ll also have access to a wide range of all-day beverages as you relax on board.
Life on board the PS Australian Star is deliberately relaxed, with the focus on enjoying the scenery and the distinctive character of the paddle steamer. The Hopwood Lounge is a comfortable gathering space, while the outdoor seating area gives you the opportunity to spend time in the open air and take in panoramic views of the river.
With such a small number of guests, the ship offers a peaceful and personal atmosphere rather than a long list of traditional cruise facilities. It’s a place where you can slow down, settle into the lounge or outdoor spaces, and enjoy the journey from the comfort of your floating retreat.
The Randell Dining Restaurant is the ship’s main dining venue, serving a fresh menu each day with a focus on delicious, locally sourced produce and cuisine. Dining is designed to showcase the flavours of the region while maintaining the high standard you’d expect from a five-star ship.
Alongside your meals, you can enjoy a wide range of all-day onboard beverages, allowing you to relax with a drink in the Hopwood Lounge or outside between meals. The intimate size of the ship also gives dining a more personal feel, complementing the relaxed atmosphere throughout the vessel.
With just 19 staterooms, accommodation on the PS Australian Star is particularly exclusive. All staterooms have a private en suite, individually controlled air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi, with a choice of one King Owner’s Suite, one Queen Owner’s Suite and 17 Queen Cabins.
The two Owner’s Suites are located on Deck 2 and each has a private balcony. The King Owner’s Suite measures 18.6m² and features a separate seating area, luxury linen and a flat-screen TV, giving you a comfortable and more spacious retreat on board.
